In February 2021, Brad Sugars launched Guyana Ports with a container for an office, no revenue, and a conspicuous gap in his résumé: he did not know how to repair ships.
He understood logistics and operations from experience around his father’s seafood export business, but welding, fabrication, blasting, and hull repair were outside his technical skill set. The experience forced Brad to confront a question that reaches far beyond marine services: does the person building a company need to be the best technician in the company?
